CSCS has recently began providing the iSPHERE oil spill tracking buoys to the offshore market. The iSPHERE buoy uses the bi-directional Iridium® satellite system to communicate and to transmit essential scientific data. The oil spill tracking buoys have been demonstrated along with the MetOcean Telematics Iridium SLDMB (iSLDMB) search and rescue drifters, during the Cyprus JRCC exercise “NEMESIS” which took place in October 2017.

The iSLDMB is an innovative, rugged, and compact A-size Self Locating Datum Marker Buoy, which was designed and tested to meet the stringent performance requirements of coastguards for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the open ocean.
